I'm 18, a freshman, and commute to URI from Pawtucket, RI. I major in Mathematics and Secondary Education; though I might switch to Elementary Education. I'm involved in Jumpstart (which is a program that allows college students, and other volunteers, the opportunity to close the gap in education by helping low-income children be better prepared for Kindergarten) partly because I want to get a feel for what it's like in a classroom setting for younger children. I feel likedeep down somewhere, I knew for most of my life that I want to be a teacher. I'm just not sure if I want to teach a younger or older age group.
I also really want to minor in Special Education because both of my brothers have ADHD, and my older brother also has Oppositional Defiance Disorder, is bipolar, and is on the autism spectrum on top of that; so from him I can somewhat understand the challenges he and others in similar situations face. I have always done my best to help him, and I really want to help morepeople like him and have a positive impact on their life.
